Death Penalty
Imagine if your family member was charged of murder. Should they be put to death? They could change; they could feel guilty about what they did. The death penalty is not justified therefore should be prohibited
To begin the death penalty gives people no chance to change. For example when criminals are in jail they have time to think, reflect and maybe even feel guilty about what they did. We all make mistakes some a lot bigger than others but God still forgives us and gives us another chance if you know that we have sinned. Why can we not show the same mercy as our loving god?
Killing criminals does not set an example to other criminals. To explain most criminals are mentally unstable, just because they see the consequence of other people’s actions that are similar to their own actions does not mean they will not do something horrible. In 2000 the UN commission of human rights urged all states that maintain the death penalty to not put anyone with a mental illness to death. The Sandy Hook murderer was obviously very unstable and he knew murderers before him had been put to death but, that did not stop him, he still murdered 26 children.
Innocent people can die by one mistake. For example police officers can move to fast in an investigation and charge someone of murder even though they did not do it. Later after that person had already been put to death they have found through DNA testing that has shown they had convicted the wrong person. Since 1973, over 130 people have been released after evidence showing their wrongful convictions. What if they did not find this evidence?
The death penalty gives people no chance to change, does not set an example for criminals and innocent people can die therefore should be abolished.
